Volcanic Garrotxa to Medieval Girona
Bike Tour: Catalonia cycling - 5 days
Let La Garrotxa lure you with striking volcanic formations set among smooth slopes and silent woodlands. Many world-class cyclists train here in the winter, testing themselves on varied terrain in a mild climate. You will spend time first riding in rural surroundings from the town of Olot, then take a rails-to-trails bike path to the capital of the province, Girona. Amble along ancient lanes, marvel at the well-preserved Jewish Quarter and select a spot for a farewell feast on Catalan cuisine.

Challenge: Travel to Cataluña and arrive in Olot.
Get going with a ride in La Garrotxa Natural Park, a veritable mosaic of landscapes. Roll along through beech woods and open farmland. Linger at ancient lava flows and enchanting villages. Stop off to stretch your legs on optional walks to natural and historic monuments.
Challenge: 25 km, 270m ascent and descent
Villages along the way: Olot, Sta. Margarida, Sant Privat d'en Bas
Determine which is your favourite of the tours offered, as today it's up to you! Pedal among hefty holm oaks or bizarre basalt pillars, marvel at the local 'Museu del Volcans', test your toughness on a short MTB section or select a stroll to a waterfall. In between, take a break at storybook settlements right out of the middle ages.
Challenge: 32 - 38 - 48km, 150 - 300 - 350 m ascent and descent.

Follow the “Via Verde”, a converted railway bike path, from volcanic Olot to enchanting Girona. Pedal among villages and farms until the serene landscapes give way to an urban setting: lovely Girona with its medieval mystique, imposing cathedral and brightly-coloured houses on the river.
Challenge: 59 km, 150 - 500m ascent and descent.
Today after breakfast, your arrangement comes to an end, leaving you with a wonderful sensation and plans to return to this beautiful area some day.
